Children's and Youth Activities

The children at Kensington have always been important to us and we have lots and lots of children of all ages from zero to 18, so whatever age of child you are you’ll find a fun group just right for your age and other children that you’ll soon be friends with.

Our children’s activities are concentrated mainly on Sundays but some of our older children and Young People also meet on other nights.

Just a note on safety – we take the welfare and safety of the children very seriously and have a detailed Children’s and Young People’s Policy that ensures that we have best practice. To that end all of our staff must be thoroughly checked before working with children.

SUNDAY MORNING GROUPS

Crèche – Zero to 3 years old
During the morning service we have a crèche staffed by qualified people, supported by parents, who will care for your baby or toddler. Our people have many years of child care experience and will ensure that your child has a safe and fun time playing with the good quality toys whilst you enjoy the service.

Sparklers – Age 3 to the “end of Pre-School”
Here your child will begin to learn about some of the great age old Bible Stories as they sing fun songs and do their craft and colouring.

Dazzlers – Reception Year and Year 1
As the children become used to school we aim our teaching and activities to meet their growing desire to learn as we share with them a deeper understanding about God.

Superstars – Year 2 and 3
The children start to delve that bit deeper, we try to help them understand “God’s Big Picture” across history, once again in a fun and creative way.

All Stars 1 – Year 4 and 5
Here the children are finding things out for themselves as they work their way through worksheets, puzzles and discussions.

All Stars 2 – Year 6 and 7
This is our oldest group in the morning that helps the children to see how faith can and should affect the everyday life of children either about to change to secondary school or finding their way in a new much larger world.

Throughout all of these groups we tailor all that we do so that everyone is included and able to fully take part. We want the children to enjoy all that they do and want to come back for more – which they almost invariably do!

SUNDAY EVENING groups

Kidz@Ken – Reception to Year 6
We meet at 5 o’clock when we launch into team games, table games or craft followed by a sandwich tea together, before joining the adults for 10 minutes or so in the church. Then we are back for our own time of drama, teaching, singing, DVDs, quizzes and activity sheet.
This is an action packed time that finally draws to a close as our evening service ends at around 7.10pm. This is currently our largest group with around 50 children. No 2 weeks are the same as we endeavour to make our times together as fresh and exciting for the children as we can.
We also are able to collect and return the children in the church minibus from around the local area, if parents are unable to be out themselves in the evening.

Connect – Year 7 to 9
This group runs alongside Kidz@Ken and the minibus facility is also available. Once again the evening starts with a an ice-breaker game followed by tea together. We join the church congregation for a while before returning to our own comfortable lounge for a time to study the Bible and explore and debate questions of faith in a fun, relevant and relaxed way.
On a Saturday evening Connect Active meet for games and activities at church, or other special outings. Once a month they meet up with young people from other churches around Bristol for a time of worship, and a social time at McDonald's.
The Children’s Weekend – Year 2 to Year 7
Once a year, usually in June, we have our non-stop action packed weekend away usually just across the Severn to the village of Woodcroft. The programme includes challenges, sports, singing, teaching, campfires, adventures in the woods, a day trip, BBQs, late night movie, keep fit, talent shows always seems to end with our (now) traditional massive water fight before we deliver home a lot of tired, slightly damp but very happy set of children.
